Slabs
-
Black Walnut
One of the most prized hardwoods in North America, black walnut is known for its rich chocolate-brown heartwood, striking grain patterns, and exceptional workability. It's the go-to choice for heirloom dining tables, bar tops, and desktops — pieces meant to be used and admired for decades. We regularly stock black walnut slabs in a wide range of widths and lengths.
-
Willow Oak
Willow oak produces slabs with a tight, fine grain and warm golden-tan tones that darken beautifully with age and finish. It's a harder, denser oak variety that takes stain and oil exceptionally well, making it a great choice for dining surfaces and live-edge furniture where durability matters.
-
Hackberry
Hackberry is a Wichita-area native that's often overlooked but delivers stunning results. Its creamy white sapwood contrasts sharply with darker streaks through the grain, giving each slab a wild, painterly look. Excellent for statement pieces — coffee tables, shelving, and accent furniture where the wood itself is the focal point.
-
Pecan/Hickory
Pecan and hickory are among the hardest domestic woods available, with bold color variation ranging from pale cream sapwood to rich reddish-brown heartwood — sometimes in the same board. That natural contrast makes every slab genuinely unique. Ideal for tabletops, countertops, and flooring where hardness and character both matter.
-
Mulberry
Mulberry is a rare find that stops people in their tracks. Fresh-cut slabs glow with a vivid golden-orange color that mellows over time into warm honey tones. The interlocked grain produces a subtle shimmer that's unlike any other domestic species. Perfect for one-of-a-kind accent pieces, smaller tables, and decorative slabs.
-
Eastern Red Cedar
Eastern red cedar is one of Kansas's most abundant native trees, and one of the most visually striking in slab form. The vivid contrast between the deep burgundy-red heartwood and creamy white sapwood makes it a showstopper. Naturally aromatic and rot-resistant, it's excellent for outdoor furniture, mantles, shelving, and decorative pieces.
-
Red Oak
Red oak is a workhorse species with open, straight grain and warm pinkish-brown tones that finish beautifully. It's one of the most versatile hardwoods available — widely used for dining tables, kitchen countertops, and furniture builds where strength and affordability are both priorities. We regularly carry red oak in multiple thicknesses.
-
Sycamore
Sycamore is one of the most visually complex domestic species, featuring a distinctive lacy ray pattern (called lacewood figure) that creates an almost three-dimensional depth in the grain. The creamy white to pale brown tones are subtle and refined. Excellent for tabletops, wall art, and statement furniture where texture and figure do the talking.
-
Elm Burl
Burl wood is nature at its most dramatic. Elm burl slabs feature wild, swirling grain with eyes, voids, and figure that no two pieces share. This is statement material — best used for tabletops, bar tops, and sculptural pieces where the wood is meant to be the centerpiece of the room. Extremely rare and always in high demand. Contact us quickly when we have it in stock.
-
Silver Maple
Silver maple offers wide slabs with a soft, silver-grey tone and a gentle grain that's easy to work and finish. It's one of the best species for large dining tables where width matters — slabs frequently run 24 inches or wider. The understated color pairs well with both dark and light furniture finishes and modern or rustic interiors alike.
-
Osage Orange
Osage orange — also known locally as hedge apple or bodark — is one of the hardest and most rot-resistant woods in North America. Freshly milled, it glows a vivid golden yellow that darkens to a rich amber over time. The tight interlocked grain gives it exceptional strength. Popular for accent pieces, outdoor furniture, tool handles, and anywhere you want a wood with serious character and local Kansas roots.
-
Honey Locust
Honey locust produces slabs with rich, warm reddish-brown tones and a flowing, interlocked grain that gives each piece real visual movement. It's a dense, durable hardwood that takes finish exceptionally well. Great for dining tables, countertops, and bar tops where you want the warmth of walnut but something a little less common.
